O Que é o Canal Lacrimal?

A principal causa do entupimento do canal lacrimal em bebês é a falha na abertura de uma membrana chamada válvula de Hasner, que deveria se romper ao nascimento. Em cerca de 5% dos recém-nascidos, essa membrana permanece intacta, causando sintomas de obstrução que podem afetar um ou ambos os olhos. A boa notícia é que, em 90% dos casos, o problema se resolve espontaneamente no primeiro ano de vida.
Já nos idosos o lacrimejamento é extremamente comum, podendo estar associado à obstrução da saída da drenagem lacrimal à maior produção lacrimal por inflamação do segmento anterior ocular e também maior produção por anormalidade da secreção lacrimal (ocorre excesso da produção lacrimal de uma lagrima mais “fluida”) (SILVA, João Amaro Ferrari, LIMA, Ana Luisa Hofling,2008).
Outras causas comuns de obstrução do canal lacrimal incluem:
- Infecções: como a dacriocistite (infecção do saco lacrimal);
- Inflamações crônicas: conjuntivite, sinusite e doenças autoimunes;
- Traumas ou lesões: cirurgias ou ferimentos na região dos olhos ou nariz;
- Envelhecimento: com o tempo, os tecidos ao redor do ducto lacrimal tornam-se mais flácidos, aumentando o risco de obstrução.
- Pólipos ou tumores: crescimentos anormais na região do nariz ou olhos.
- Corpos estranhos: embora raro, a presença de algo estranho no ducto lacrimal pode bloqueá-lo.
Sintomas do Canal Lacrimal Entupido
O sintoma mais óbvio é o lacrimejamento constante, especialmente em recém-nascidos. Além disso, os olhos podem ficar vermelhos, inchados, e até infeccionados (Causando dor, calor e eritema local), com secreções amareladas ou esverdeadas.
Se não tratado, o acúmulo de lágrimas pode levar a infecções recorrentes, como a dacriocistite, que precisa de atenção médica imediata.
Diagnóstico
O diagnóstico do canal lacrimal entupido é geralmente feito por um oftalmologista ou otorrinolaringologista, com base nos sintomas e em exames específicos, como:

- Dacriocistografia: exame de imagem para localizar a obstrução;
- Endoscopia nasal: usada para visualizar anomalias nos ductos;
- Irrigação e sondagem: teste prático onde uma solução salina é inserida no ducto lacrimal para verificar o grau de obstrução.
Tratamento: O Que Fazer?
Em bebês, a obstrução do canal lacrimal costuma se resolver naturalmente até o primeiro ano de vida. No entanto, em casos persistentes ou em adultos, há várias opções de tratamento:
- Massagem lacrimal: especialmente indicada para bebês, envolve uma leve pressão no saco lacrimal para ajudar a drenar as lágrimas.

- Sondagem do ducto lacrimal: procedimento simples para desobstruir o canal.
